Ingredients

For the Base
  • 1 bag Fritos Corn Chips A crunchy foundation that adds texture; tortilla chips can also be used for variation.
For the Meat Mixture
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef The hearty protein that makes this dish satisfying; try ground turkey for a lighter alternative.
  • 1 cup Diced Yellow Onions They bring sweetness and depth; shallots can be substituted for a milder flavor.
  • 1 cup Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce This gives moisture and flavor to the beef; feel free to use your favorite BBQ sauce or a homemade blend.
For the Toppings
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella and Cheddar Cheese Adds gooey creaminess and flavor; mix it up with Monterey Jack or pepper jack for a spicier kick.
  • ½ cup Real Bacon Bits For that smoky, crispy flavor; cooked and crumbled bacon can be a delicious substitute.
  • 1 cup French’s Fried Onions They provide a savory crunch on top; crushed potato chips can work as an alternative if you're in a pinch.

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • 9x13-inch baking dish

Step-by-Step Instructions for BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Frito Pie
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather your ingredients while the oven heats up.
  2. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of margarine over medium-high heat. Add 1 pound of lean ground beef, using a spatula to crumble it as it cooks. Sauté until brown, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of diced yellow onions and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
  4. Pour in 1 cup of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, stir until the beef is coated, and simmer for 1-2 minutes. Mix in 1 cup of real bacon bits.
  5. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a layer of Fritos corn chips across the bottom.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture over the Fritos, spreading evenly.
  7. Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top. Add ½ cup of bacon bits and 1 cup of French’s fried onions.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and fully melted.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes before serving.
